Lake Allatoona: Victoria Beach - Woodstock GA

Loading...
Lake Allatoona: Victoria Beach is a shore accessible fresh water dive site, located at 955 Victoria Landing Drive, Woodstock, GA 30189. This dive site has an average rating of 3.00 out of 5 from 1 scuba divers. The maximum depth is 51-60ft/16-18m. The average visibility is 5-10ft/2-3m.

Warnings
Boat Traffic, Compass Warning - Lake Allatoona was formed on a granite surface. Compasses may therefore fail or struggle to read properly while diving.

Location
A five-dollar entry fee is required to access the beach. Once on the beach the water is easily accessible for diving. The beach is man-made and kept clean. There are plenty of benches and grills to use in addition to bathrooms being found on site. There is an island not far from the beach that one can access. If diving during the summer, it is suggested to arrive at the beach before 9 a.m. as the beach gets very busy on the weekends. Weekdays it is typically empty.

Diving
The island is typically littered with geese as it is a breeding ground for them. On the opposite side of the island the water will immediately be an approximate four (4) feet in depth upon entering. Divers will want to set up a dive flag at this point. Divers are now looking at the main channel of Lake Allatoona. Boat traffic is heavy on weekends but light during the week. This is adjacent to Victoria Marina. Diving near the immediate vicinity of the marina is not legal without permission due to liability concerns. Divers should not venture toward the marina, which is in eye-site. Directionally, a 270-degree heading to 180-degree heading is perfectly fine (or somewhere relative to that). Alternatively, one can go straight out and back from the island utilizing compass navigation, or head to the left with a bearing of about 180 – degrees (note that granite composition may mess with one’s compass). Keep in mind that jet skiers do not know what a dive flag is. Jet skiers will run over a dive flag or diver if surfaced.

What to observe
This dive is a mix of muck and hard substrate depending upon where you are. Lots of small rocks and crustaceans (mostly freshwater snails and claims). Otherwise, a moon walk. For fish, Bluegill are very friendly and are commonly observed. They will practically come right up to divers and greet them.

Minimum Training:
Advanced Open Water Diver (Suggested) due to dangers of high boat traffic and granite bottom potentially messing with compass directions.

Fun beach. Diving is alright. Might see something, and that is with low visibility. A dive flag is definitely needed if venturing out past the island.
